A Local Guide to Perth with Mi Scusi

A Local Guide to Perth with Mi Scusi

Perth, oh Perth. It may be one of the world’s most geographically isolated cities but it certainly doesn't feel that way. That, in part, is thanks to it's hospitality community.

The places to eat and drink are as abundant as the fresh, local produce that defines this darling city. Wherever you turn, from the famed Margaret River to the gorgeous Yallingup vineyards, something delicious is waiting.

Sun-soaked and beach-lined, Perth is serving up all the good stuff. And who better to show us the ropes than the locals at Mi Scusi.

This catering like-you’ve-never-seen-before group knows how to bring people together with unique food and drink setups. From an oyster bar to a hot chip trolley and pasta served straight out the parmigiano reggiano wheel, it’s catering that makes for great photos (big tick for those weddings) and actually tastes exceptional.

Mi Scusi have curated the best of the best suppliers around Perth who, given their locality, go above and beyond to source, import and sometimes handpick produce, from melt in your mouth wagyu to the freshest of the fresh toothfish.

They are the experts on the region's produce, so we take their recommendations on where to eat and drink with full seriousness. This list is sure to have you booking flights to the West.

The Mi Scusi team helping us put together this Perth guide
  • Matthew McDonald - Sous Chef
  • Lewis Miller - Head Chef
  • Olivia Ledger - General manager
  • Marco Bevilacqua - Excutive Chef and Owner
What's your go-to when you knock off?
  • Matthew - Astral Weeks - Perfect space for a party of one, or more.
  • Lewis - Bayswater Hotel
  • Olivia - What’s a knock off ?? Seriously though, my version of this would be a slow morning before work with my nearly three year old. Taking it easy at the gorgeous Hyde Park Perth, where we line up to grab a handcrafted pastry (a whole selection of pastries...who am I kidding) and strong latte from Chu Bakery, Highgate. You can’t beat starting the day with the Chu delights!!!
  • Marco - Si Paradiso in Highgate is great for a late night cap after service for a cocktail and pizza the courtyard is beautiful and the music is always great. Make sure you also get the triple cooked potatoes with ranch.
Where are you eating on a day/night off?
  • Matthew - One of the many little restaurants located in the Coventry Markets Morley. Play it safe with some easy dumplings, noodles or Pho. Better yet, challenge yourself with a deep dive into something spicy from one of the south east vendors. Never let you down!
  • Lewis - If it's not a BBQ at home, Testun Bar or Casa – classic wine bar bites, Italian inspired which will never let you down!
  • Olivia - Relaxed Japanese hero, Is Donburi, for an always satisfying meal. Evening meals for the whole family with our friends Threecoins & Sons (same crew as Testun) in Mt Lawley!
  • Marco - Chicken katsu curry from Is Donburi. When it’s full recovery mode after a massive couple of weeks I find solitude in diving into their katsu curry.
It's staff party time... where would you take the whole team?
  • Matthew - Monsterella Pizza - because, where else?
  • Lewis - Paintballing!
  • Olivia - So far two years in a row - private charter to Rottnest Island, anchored on a secluded bay, weather permitting, for a full day of catered food and beverages / cocktail bartenders to spoil our team who are often on the tools themselves!
  • Marco - Marubang Korean BBQ. Not always in this rhythm but this is generally how it goes: soju, wagyu, kimchi, soju, gem lettuce, pork belly, beef intercostal, clam soup, soju, kimchi pancake, scallops, tartare, soju. Then we all head down the street to play i Darts - it’s like Timezone but for adults.
You have a 15 minute lunch break... where are you grabbing a quick bite?
  • Matthew - Kings Bakery - can’t beat it! Borek is out of this world! Cheap, quick and never lets me down. Pro tip: The perfect hangover cure!
  • Lewis - Deli’s Continental in Inglewood holds a special place in our hearts whilst being a central / convenient stop to and from the way to work.
  • Olivia - Deli’s Continental Highgate. The perfect deli rolls and house made bread, Stev’s classic and special combinations are banging! Otherwise Bagel-O, the OG bagel shop in Perth, Mt Lawley.
  • Marco - Authentic Bites Dumpling House. I sometimes take my staff there for a quick lunch before functions but the prawn and chicken dumplings with peanut and chilli sauce is the go to every time.
Gotta kill time... where are you going window shopping?
  • Matthew - Shop Man-tle - perfectly curated space run by two outstanding locals. Their label is the perfect blend of practical, design forward clothing and homewares influenced by Japan and their time abroad.
  • Lewis - Chef’s Edge.
  • Olivia - Art Deco furniture, homewares and art pieces. Mi Scusi is a preferred caterer at the Art Gallery of WA, so my version of window shopping and gaining inspiration is likened to the work we get to do at the beautiful gallery space, browsing their popular gift shop and sneaking previews of upcoming exhibitions when catering the regular new exhibition launches.
  • Marco - Chefs Edge in Leederville sells premium Japanese chef knives and gadgets to stock up on. Plus, it’s right down the road from our friend Richard Overbye’s Angelwood Pie Shop, so it makes a great excuse to stop in.

The team at Mi Scusi wear Worktones custom tees, aprons and caps.
